Reading: Overdrive - Book Borrowing

Overdrive EBooks and Audio Books
Considering the amount that I read how had I never heard of Overdrive before??

I can read 6-10 books per month and have over the last few months resorted to free and $2 books from Amazon Kindle just because I can't keep paying $10-$20 per book from Kobo. It hasn't been bad reading, but I do still feel very strange reading on my phone. It feels like I'm being disrespectful to those around me which is weird because I use my reader and don't feel that way, but I have this strange thing about people thinking I'm "playing" on my phone. Daft I know.

Anyway enter OVERDRIVE! You sign up for overdrive and then using your local library card borrow books on your eReader. How incredible! Back to the land of current novels and non-fiction. My local library allows me to borrow up to 20 items which could set me up for no work and all play if I'm not careful, but regardless - I am in love with this service.

Check out Overdrive and see if your local library is a member.

Podcast: Lady Startup by Mamamia

Lady Startup Podcast By Mamamia
In this podcast by Mamamia, the host Rachel Corbett has conversations with women who've started and are running their own businesses. During the chat she asks all sorts of questions about starting, scaling and managing a life in amongst a very busy work day. I really like this podcast mostly because while its women she speaks to it doesn't feel like a women only option. It just so happens to be women that she talks to.  I've listened to probably 20 episodes by now and the ones that stand out to me are:
  • Lizzy Abegg - Spell & The Gypsy Collective
  • Taryn Brumiftt: Body Image Movement (Adelaide mum of 3) - sorry that's a joke you will get after you've listened to Taryn's episode.
  • Jane Lu - Showpo
Check out Lady Startup wherever you listen to podcasts or via their website

Learning:

Piximperfect Photoshop Training
I use Photoshop every day. If its not for client images its for my own travel photos so I consider myself to be pretty good at it. Wow - I just found out I'm rubbish! This YouTube channel called Piximperfect features video's by Unmesh Dinda who has to be one of the best Photoshop artists on earth. This channel has rapidly grown to over a million subscribers and Unmesh's easy to follow explanations has to be the main reason.

About Jenny

I started my IT career in Database Administration and .Net coding. While I LOVED that work, I realised very quickly that I also wanted a life. To be a top end coder or DB Admin, you have to comit your downtime to constantly learning and evolving and while that is also something I love, I wanted it to be my work and not my life. So I morphed my love of design with my knowledge of all things SEO and moved into building small business websites.

Why small business websites? I'm a small business myself and I know how hard it can be so I wanted to give my clients a great service, with an approachable point of contact where no question was a "stupid question".
